Fallen Hero Honoree 2018 – David Collins
Over the course of his twenty-five year Naval career, Chief Petty Officer David Collins completed multiple deployments to South America, Iraq and Afghanistan, having served in the first Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Collins’ personal awards and decorations include a Bronze Star Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Valor, Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, eight Navy Good Conduct Medals and numerous service and campaign awards.
On March 12, 2014, shortly after retiring from the SEAL Teams, David Collins took his own life due to the side effects of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) which was caused by Traumatic Brain Injuries he sustained both in combat and training. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer and children, Grace and Samuel. Since losing her husband, Jennifer has made raising awareness of CTE her calling. Dave was an amazing father and husband and taught his children the most important lessons in life – humility, kindness, loyalty and love.
